Unless you have your own business, you probably have a résumé. If you have been working for the same company or in the same role for some time, your résumé is probably outdated. You figure that when you need to apply for a promotion or a new job, you’ll pull out a file saved on a USB drive somewhere and add a few things to it and be ready to go. Have I got news for you!
The best time to update your résumé is NOW! Don’t wait until you need to update it, keep it updated on a regular basis so that when you do need it, you have it ready to go as soon as opportunity knocks.
If you haven’t updated your résumé in a while, I can help. Whether it’s a thorough line by line inspection of your résumé or just a quick overview to make sure it all makes sense, I will help you polish things up to look their best.
Remember, the point of a good résumé is to get noticed enough to get an interview. The rest is up to you!
"After being asked to review some co-workers résumés, it became apparent to me that my own was written in a very outdated style. I found it very difficult to update my own in a modern fashion and decided to have it professionally reviewed. I chose Best Word Forward at the recommendation of several people. Jonathan Ytreberg provided clear and concise critique and recommendations. He pointed out several issues that would never have occurred to me. He did so by using an easy to follow format, which included specific points tied in to my current résumé, and a corresponding letter with detailed explanations for each point. He has provided me with the tools to keep my résumé updated and tailor it to specific opportunities."
"Jonathan's résumé services put me back on the map. His vast knowledge of résumé writing and his clear, precise tips produce real results. Jonathan will make you a superstar."
"Recently I was forced to update my resume, and did the best I could as I’d not even thought of this thing in over a decade. In search of an outside opinion, I turned to Jonathan’s service, Best Word Forward, thinking I’d either receive feedback that it was just fine the way it was, or a complete tear-down/rebuild into something I wouldn't be comfortable with. Boy, was I wrong! What I got instead were succinct, easy to implement suggestions which left my resume feeling like my own, with a great format and to-the-point content that I’m confident will deliver.
The letter accompaniment helped explain the suggestions that Jonathan gave in a convenient Word document format; reading it felt like he was right there explaining everything to me!
I thank you, Jonathan, as I approach the job market with renewed confidence. I look forward to reporting back my positive results!"
There are a variety of résumé review services available online and you can also find them for free through your college or university. What sets Best Word Forward apart is the detail that I will go into with your résumé. My goal is to give you the tools to make your résumé shine but still allow it to belong to you. That’s why I don’t write résumés for people.
When I review your résumé, I take the time to comb through the entire document. I will make various formatting suggestions, highlight anything that I think already stands out, and recommend any deletions. When I return your résumé to you with my suggestions, I will include a personalized letter detailing the items that I feel need to be improved.
The typical turnaround time for my review is 24-48 hours. If you need something faster than that, please email me directly. For the follow-up offering by phone, we will set up a time via email communication and I will call you to go over the notes that I made on your résumé. This is an additional service and is entirely optional.
